Domain Storage Allocation

SmarterMail has the ability to set storage by domain, and domain administrators can allocate storage by email address. However, the system allows admins to allocate more storage to email than the domain total.

Running SmarterMail Professional Build 8025

Is there a way to enforce total space allocation?

IE:

Domain has 5GB Storage limit, 5 email accounts

Email1 -> 3GB

Email2 -> 1GB

Email3 -> 500MB

If the domain admin tries to add Email4 with 1GB, then there should be a message indicating this exceeds the domain limit. Currently it is possible to create more accounts than the limit, it also allows a single email to be set higher than the domain limit. It will allow an email to be setup with 10GB giving the user the impression they have more storage.

Hello Terry! I did a quick test on this today and was able to replicate the behavior you've noted. I allocated 1GB to my domain, and was able to then allocate 5GB to a user within that domain. I'm going to spin off an internal development ticket on this and will send it there way right away.

I was not able to create more users than the domain has been allocated, but the size here should be addressed. That being said, the domain size allocation will kick in prior to that user reaching their maximum, so this should prevent that domain being able to use more space than it should be at the very least. Thanks for getting this reported Terry!

Hi Kyle and Terry!

I believe that this is a function, not a bug...

Right now I can (e.g.) set a customer domain with 100GB storage space and 20 mailbox with max 10GB everyone... so the THEORETICAL max space is 200GB, but in reality the mailboxes are now empty.

So the customer can now works, mailboxes start growing and in the future some mailboxes can achieve 12-13 or so on GB of space, other mailboxes maybe only 1 GB of used space and the maximum 100GB of the domain will not be reached...

To me this is a flexibility option, a function to limit TOTAL Domain space without limiting every single mailbox.
